Swindon Wildcats meet Peterborough Phantoms at home this Saturday... |
|
Hot on the heels of their first road League win of the season at perennial 'bogey team' Sheffield, the Wildcats' attention turns to improving their home form as they welcome last season's treble-winners to the Link Centre. The Peterborough Phantoms arrive on Saturday with one of the toughest questions to answer this season: What do you do when you've won everything? Their answer, it seems, is to have a bit of a clear out and then try to do it all again! Eleven of last season's squad have moved on to pastures new, including top scorer Nathan Remple (to Guildford), Craig Peacock and James Hutchinson to Belfast and Hull respectively in the Elite league, and four players down the A1 to join up with former Peterborough hero Jesse Hammill at Rom Valley Way. In their place comes two of the best players to turn out for the now-defunct Telford Tigers last year in the form of Tom Carlon and Alex Symonds, as well as the return of former Swindon junior Nick Compton, back after another year in North America. The biggest signing, though, is that of former SPHL hot-rod Jason Cassells. Cassells was the free scoring forward that controversially left the Tigers close to deadline day last season for a shot in the Elite league with Edinburgh, and a player that the Wildcats were linked with a couple of times over the summer by some rumour mongers, making obvious connections between Cassells and former Wildcat hero Joel Petkoff. Coach Aldridge has been working with his players throughout the week, analysing what went well in the first and third periods in last Saturday's game against the Phoenix and paying particular attention to the lapses that saw the league new boys bounce five straight goals in the middle frame, as well as reflecting on the effective performance on the large ice in Sheffield where his travelling 'Cats were unlucky not to win by a much larger margin. Face-off at the Link Centre on Saturday is 5.45pm!
