World Record Mike is supported by Cats

The Swindon Wildcats are proud to be supporting World Record breaker Mike Buss this weekend as he attempts to break FIVE fitness world records in 30 hours this weekend as the centrepiece of a two-day Help for Heroes Festival at the Swindon Designer Outlet. Fresh from setting two new world records on 16th January and 6th Feb which gained worldwide attention, he will attempt to beat world records for the Multi-Stage Fitness Test carrying a 40lb pack, 60lb pack and 120lb pack (8 stone). To make things extraordinarily difficult, Mike Buss will attempt the same fitness test in a Nuclear, Chemical and Biological warfare suit with respirator – and 40lb rucksack! The respirator cuts down the oxygen supply to 60% of normal airflow, putting greater strain on the heart. On Sunday he will wear the full NCB suit to set a new world record for the most step-ups whilst carrying a 100lb pack. Setting five world records within 30 hours will be another world record.

The Swindon Designer Outlet is fully supporting Mike’s fundraising efforts and £5,000 target. Shoppers can even break an unusual world record themselves. There will be performances by live bands - Sleeping with Giants and Theo Altieri, BlueBelles Majorettes, Hot Steppers Street Dance, first aid demonstrations by AM Medical Services and Diamond sports therapy is offering 15 minute massage treatments in exchange for donations. Former Lance Corporal Matt Croucher was awarded the George Cross for saving his friends by throwing himself backwards on a hand grenade. He is author of ‘Bullet Proof’ and pending MOD permission, will do a book signing on Sunday at 3pm in aid of the charity

Nick Williams, marketing manager at Swindon Designer Outlet, said ‘Mike Buss is an inspiration to us all; his dedication to raising money for Help for Heroes knows no bounds and we’re proud to be hosting his world record attempts here.’ The Festival is sponsored by Blue Click PR Ltd and Best of Swindon. World Record attempts are being sponsored by Jeep (Mike's biggest sponsor to date), Brunel Radio, the Swindon Wildcats and Swindon Designer Outlet Village.

Mike says ‘My tagline ‘Beyond Impossible’ is what I am getting known for. This has pushed me even further to make these challenges really difficult. It helps to grab the public’s attention in aid of army guys fighting on the frontline. I was discharged from the army after injury and am doing all I can to help them. We’d love to see a good crowd but if you can’t get there this weekend, you can still donate online.’ Go to www.justgiving.com/mikes-worldrecords Mike’s key sponsors for 2010 include Jeep, Saucony, Berghaus, Cliff Bar and ISO Nutrition.

The Swindon Wildcats are urging fans to make the trip to the Outlet centre to support Mike over the weekend.  Some of the team ran along side him recently as he broke a world in the Brunel Centre, and the Wildcats will be supporting the Help for Heroes charity further through a bucket collection at one of their forthcoming game. Keep an eye on www.swindonwildcats.com for Mike's updates and info on the bucket collection.
