Local Clash Ends In 6 Goal Stalemate
Wednesday, 08 September 2010 21:40

Tonight the Wildcats took to the ice for the first time as a 2010/11 team in an pre-season friendly against the local rivals, the Slough Jets. In perfect style the home side grabbed their first goal to open the game, waiting until the 16th minute to find the back of the net. New import Toivo Suursoo showed great determination when after hitting a blistering shot off the post, his follow up could be rewarded for his efforts and the team’s first goal in a Swindon shirt with a good wrist shot. The celebrations were short lived however when Slough replied almost immediately when a loose puck was tapped in by Canadian Doug Sheppard, after making its way through the Swindon netminder's pads.
Slough were then to take the lead for the first time in the match when a second period goal scored by ex-Wildcat Jan Krajicek was finished in front of net. It was not long before tensions flew against these two sides and it took one slash too many to stop proceedings. A coming together between Wildcat forward Sam Bullas and Slough’s Adam Greener led to the two exchanging words but the gloves stayed on to the relief of both coaches. The two were called for roughing and the high tempo game picked up once more, as the two teams battled it out. New face Steve Fisher was the next to step up after a burst up the ice and a nice forward play amongst his line, his shot across goal saw him grab a second for the 'Cats; clipping the post to find its way in.
At 33:12 Jets' Darius Pliskauskas would then grab one for his side after the away side had several chances on the Wildcat net. Pliskauskas kept his composure and with some soft hands took the puck around a blocking defenseman and placed a perfect wristshot past 'Cats Chris Douglas. It took until the final period for the Wildcats to tie up the game but anyone who watches hockey will tell you it was well worth the wait. Multiple overlapping plays bought the puck up the ice and it took a certain Steve Fisher to grab his second of the game and beat netminder Rockman with a superb placed shot. It was a great debut for the Welshman who not only scored two, but also got the last goal of the game to leave proceedings all square.
A good game all round, with Swindon having taken last years’ EPL Champions to the end of three periods all level. The initial nerves will now be out of the way and the team and fans alike now have a taster of what is to come. A lot will be taken from the game and put into practice when Swindon face new comers the Telford Tigers this coming Saturday. Some great efforts tonight from the likes of Toivo Suursoo, Steve Fisher, Ryan Watt and Sam Bullas all shined through and will undoubtedly be looking for another good game come Saturday.

A new season is upon on us and with it comes our new 2010/11 official programme. Opposed to previous years, we have made this season's programme full of content, with something to read on every page. Not only will the programme contain the standard scorecard and relevant articles from the team but also many new features gathered from players and fans alike. Throughout the season we will be bringing you 'Player Profiles', 'Blogs', 'Official Wildcats Photographs', an 'Around the League' article and a '5 minutes with...' feature. As well as all this we will of course bring you coach Ryan Aldridge's views on the team and as we hit our 25th anniversary we will also be introducing our new 'Retro Years' feature. Over the coming campaign we will be looking back on memorable games, moments and memories as we follow the Wildcats' path from its roots back in 1986.
To read these along with the rest of our new features please purchase a programme on any of our game nights or through our online shop linked through the website. We look forward to bringing you up to date and what should be interesting news throughout the year and look forward to seeing you all cheer on your Wildcat team.

Wildcats Impress at Season Launch
Monday, 06 September 2010 08:43

Yesterday (Sunday 5th September)  the Swindon Wildcats held their annual Season Launch and Barbeque, giving fans, Sponsors and press alike a chance to meet this year’s 2010/11 EPL side. There was a strong presence of media with head coach Ryan Aldridge taking the fair share of questions, giving out the clear message that his team is ‘harder, more physical and a more rounded squad, than seen last season’.

On the Ice, a good attendance of supporters were not disappointed with their early glimpse of the team who showed an instant chemistry and some quality strings of plays to put away several goals at either end.

What was left of the day consisted of players and supporters alike joining in a large BBQ -under some questionable weather.  However with the players cooking up the food and the atmosphere staying high throughout, the day ended on a real high ahead of next week’s pre season fixtures.

Tickets for the two eagerly anticipated pre season games are now on general sale. Ticket sales so far have been very good.  Now tickets can also purchased at the Box Office on 01793 886857, from the Link Centre or online at www.swindonwildcats.com.
