Ben Returns For 17/18!

Our latest signing of #5in5 allows us announce the return of 19-year-old Brit Ben Nethersell to the Wildcats locker room and blue-line.

The talented puck moving defenceman will be entering his second season in Swindon having joined the Wildcats from the Okanagan Hockey Academy last summer. Despite starting the season on a two-way deal with Oxford City Stars, Ben still managed 38 appearances contributing 15 points including three goals.

Having represented Great Britain at Under 18 level too, the offensive upside of Ben’s game was a big reason for Player Coach Aaron Nell bringing him back for his second season.

“Ben is very good with the puck and moves it extremely well, which is something rare in a D man. I want my D men next year to be more offensive and Ben will be a massive part of that. The things he does, some people do not see. To have an 18-year-old D man able to move the puck like he does is massive for us. With only one import on the powerplay, Ben and other young players will be a part of that and he’s going to be a big part of our D core next year.

Ben was a player who has showed patience, he started the season in Oxford and when his opportunity arose we chucked him in at the deep and he was successful. He’s got a lot to work on this summer to be ready for September, but Ben has more responsibility on his shoulders this year and I think he’ll be ready for that.” Nell added.

Speaking about his return to Swindon, Nethersell told Wildcats Sports Editor Ben Callaghan:

“I am excited to be returning as a full-time Wildcat. Last season I enjoyed the opportunity I was given to get a lot of ice time in front of great fans. I'm looking forward to building on where we left off last year as a team. I'm also personally going to try and contribute more points and continue a good attitude. But most importantly I want to bring some silverware back to Swindon.”
