Wildcats VS Phantoms 09/09/2017 Game Preview

Aaron Nell and his troops return to home ice again this weekend as we complete our pre-season schedule. We’ll be welcoming Slava Koulikov and the Peterborough Phantoms into town for a 6:15PM face-off.

After a solid 4-2 win against the Bracknell Bees the Wildcats are looking to secure their second win of pre-season. Goals from Luc Johnson, Kyle Smith, Ben Nethersell and Jordan Kelsall were enough to secure the win. Sunday will see the return fixture as the Wildcats head to Bretton, Peterborough looking for their first road win of the season.

The Phantoms this season are looking as solid as ever, the dangerous import duo of Darius Pliskauskas and Alex Padelek have both returned and will be boosted with the arrival of key British players Leigh Jamieson & Nathan Salem.

Bringing in the likes of Jamieson and Salem are a clear sign of intent for a Phantoms side which is usually well drilled and well coached under the guidance of GB U20 head coach, Slava Koulikov. It was a mixed weekend last week for the Phantoms having lost 5-0 to the Basingstoke Bison on Saturday although they feared better on Sunday winning 6-5 in the return fixture with Padelek scoring a hat-trick.

Speaking ahead of the game Wildcats Player/Coach Aaron Nell said, “Peterborough will be another tough test, they have some good players and are very well coached. We want to test ourselves against the best and that’s exactly what we’re doing. They have a top team, and if we want to win this year we have to finish above them”.

Phantoms Roster: Netminders – Dan Lane, Adam Long and Jack Peacock. Defence – Bradley Bowering, Robert Ferrara, Edward Knaggs, Nathan Long, Callum Medcalf, Tom Norton, Greg Pick, Scott Robson and Ben Russell. Forwards – Glenn Billing, Jack Escott, James Ferrara, Owen Griffiths, Jarvis Hunt, Leigh Jamieson, Ales Padelek, Darius Pliskauskas, Taylor Romeo, Nathan Salem, Will Weldon and James White.
