Zajac & Rutkis Depart The Cats

Swindon Wildcats are disappointed to announce the departure of Toms Rutkis and Sam Zajac who will be leaving the Wildcats.

Toms is making the full-time step up to the Cardiff Devils and will be leaving the Wildcats immediately, whilst Sam has received the offer of full-time employment in Newcastle which he cannot turn down. Sam’s last game for the Wildcats will be December 3rd.

Toms joined the Wildcats having qualified from the Okanagan Hockey Academy and made his Cats debut in the 2014-15 season going onto make 98 appearances plus 10 playoff games for the club. He will remain on a two-way deal with the Wildcats and will be icing for us for the weekend of 9th/10thDecember.

Whilst Sam joined us last summer from the Telford Tigers he has iced in all our games this year totalling 16 points along the way.

Speaking about the double departure Head Coach Aaron Nell said; “Obviously we are disappointed to be losing both Toms and Sam at this stage of the season. Toms will have an unbelievable opportunity to test himself with the Devils and we would never stand in the way of young players furthering their careers. We wish him nothing but the best of luck in the EIHL and thank him for all his efforts during his time with us.

Likewise with Sam, he’s been offered an off-ice opportunity and he has to take that. Although he’s only been with us a short time he’s made a big impact on the club and the staff, players and particularly the fans will really miss him. It’s good we’ve got his services for two more weeks before he goes.

If the right player becomes available we will look to bring them in to the club as we have in the past. For now we wish both Toms and Sam the best of luck in the future.”

The organisation would like to place on record their thanks to both Toms and Sam who have been superb representatives for the organisation during their time in Swindon. We’d also like to thank their relevant sponsors Basepoint and Corvus Travelfor their support of both players and their continued support of the Swindon Wildcats.
