Kana Is Wildcats Bound

New import for Wildcats

Swindon Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge has moved swiftly to replace Henri Sandvik who departed the club last week, by capturing the signature of long-term transfer target, Tomáš Káňa.

The 27-year-old Czech forward, who previously iced with Wildcats captain Jan Kostal at Karlovy Vary during the 2012-13 season, is expected to arrive in the UK tomorrow [Monday, January 26th 2014] and Aldridge is hopeful that his new player will be available to go straight in to Wednesday’s Challenge Cup Semi Final First Leg tie against the Manchester Phoenix [on January, 28th].

“I tried to sign him last summer but he actually only became available to me yesterday,” Aldridge said following Saturday evenings 5-1 home defeat against the Peterborough Phantoms.

“He wanted a clause in his contract last summer where he could leave to a better league if an option was to become available, so I decided against bringing him in at the time, and there is no such clause in this deal.”

Káňa has a wealth of experience having played in teams from the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL, to EHC Klostersee in the German Oberliga during the last 13 years, and arrives in Wiltshire just as the Wildcats are experiencing their best season for a decade.

“He’s going to bring experience and hopefully some goal scoring,” Aldridge continued.  “He’s not a direct like-for-like swap for Henri [Sandvik], but he’s got playmaking skills and everything else a forward should bring.”

The Wildcats would like to thank MidexPro for agreeing to take over Kana’s Full Player sponsorship, after the company also stepped in and took over Sandvik’s sponsorship at short notice previously.
