After a good midweek win against Basingstoke the Wildcats returned to action on Saturday evening's with the visit of the Bracknell Bees. 'Cats were at full strength with Tomasz Malasinski being the only exception. The Bees went into the contest missing new signing Krystof Kafan.
The Wildcats started brightly and forced Matt Smital into a spectacular save with his pads to deny Ben Davies. Swindon didn't take long to open their account on the evening when Callum Buglass fired a shot through traffic to get his first goal of the season. The Wildcats continued to dominate and doubled their advantage at 11.12 when Ben Davies fed a lovely pass onto the stick of Max Birbraer who had all the time in the world to fire home. Bracknell went close through Luka Basic but was stopped by the glove of Stevie Lyle.
At 15.28 Swindon scored their third goal of the evening when Toms Rutkis broke through the Bees defence and deked around Smital to score, the assists going to Sam Bullas and Stevie Whitfield. Swindon were on the front foot and managed their 4th of the evening when Aaron Nell's wrist shot was nearly stopped by Smital but the puck dropped over the line and referee Brooks awarded the goal. Bracknell had one last chance at the end of the first but the buzzer sounded with a 4-0 score-line in favour of the 'Cats.
The second period proved to be much more end to end. The Bees began to create a few chances of their own and tested Stevie Lyle a lot more in the 'Cats net. Matt Foord had a great chance at the back post but could only meet Lyle's outstretched pads. At 31.43 Swindon scored their fifth goal of the evening.
Neil Liddiard and Adam Finlinson combined along the blue-line and Jonas Höög was on hand to tip the puck past Matt Smital and into the Bees net. With half the game gone, the Wildcats decided to swap netminders with Michael Crisp replacing Stevie Lyle between the pipes. The goals continued to flow in the home sides favour and they made it 6-0 at 33.40.
Jonas Höög won the puck on the blue-line raced forward and dropped the pass back to Aaron Nell who fired past Smital for his second goal of the evening. Bracknell got their first goal of the season at 35.20 when Lukas Smital was on hand to fire past Crisp to make the score 6-1. The second period would finish shortly after with the 'Cats in control.
The third period was more of a cagey affair. Both sides were beginning to show signs of tiredness as the chances were beginning to be scrappier. Bracknell were the side who took first advantage in the final 20 minutes when a goal mouth scramble was turned in by Carl Thompson with the assists being awarded to Scott Spearing and Luka Basic at 45.47.
Swindon struck back nearly immediately at 47:51. Mark Smith fed a pass to Ben Davies at the back door who was on hand to fire the puck past a sprawling Matt Smital. Despite late chances for either side the final buzzer went and the Cats had made it two from two with a 7-2 victory. The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow evening in Bracknell where they hit the road for the first time this season.
