Match report

Telford Tigers
1 - 4
Swindon

Swindon Wildcats completed their weekend schedule with a 4-1 win away to Telford Tigers, rounding off a superb four point cup weekend for the Better Link Centre outfit.

A Renny Marr (sponsored by Jack Hammond) inspired man of the match performance was enough to backstop the Wildcats to their first maximum point weekend of the season after beating the Basingstoke Bison the previous evening.

The opening period in Telford proved to be a dominant one for TCL sponsored Aaron Nell and his team. An early Luc Johnson goal was enough to give them the lead inside the opening two minutes of the game. A matter of minutes later Sam Bullas doubled the lead after redirecting a shot from the point past Denis Bell in the Tigers net.

A goal-mouth scramble tucked in by Jack Watkins was enough to ensure the Tigers went into the first period break only a goal behind, despite losing Jonathan Weaver to a match penalty shortly before the end of the period.

The second period continued with Swindon control, and Joseph Hazeldine was on hand to open his account for the Wiltshire side after being fed a lovely pass by Sam Bullas, with Bell stranded going post to post to try and cover the shot.

In a matter of ‘one brings two’ shortly later Chris Jones added a fourth for the Cats. Floyd Taylor pulled the puck off the boards and nearly scored from a tight angle before his Welsh team-mate was able to poke the puck over the line.

Between the pipes the Wildcats netminder, Renny Marr, was showing everyone the promise he has despite is young age with a string of impressive saves denying the likes of Jason Silverthorn, Rick Plant and Joe Miller.

In the third period the Wildcats were able to play defensive hockey and ensure the points would be heading back down the M5 to West Swindon, thanks to both sides keeping clean sheets the scoreline finished 4-1 in the visitors favour.

As the final buzzer sounded the travelling fans erupted into celebration after the 100% start in the NIHL Cup was continued, before the attention focused to the league competition and games with Invicta Dynamos and Streatham Redhawks this weekend.
