Nethersell: Iím Making The Most of My Opportunity

Wildcats Sports Editor Ben Callaghan speaks to Ben Nethersell after last week's home game against Manchester.

Since injuries have begun to affect the Wildcats defensive core with Callum Buglass, Ollie Stone & Mark Smith all absent now, an opportunity for a young British defencemen in the shape of Ben Nethersell has opened up and the former OHA captain has grasped his chance with both hands.

“I think I have settled in well, I have better as the season has gone on. It is a step up from Oxford but as long as I keep working hard then I am sure I will be staying here.” He said.

“The powerplay time is good, I am learning every time I go on and it is something different. For my age, it is something different and I am just trying to stay on there and make the most of my opportunity.

Despite winning 5-0 on home ice against the Manchester Phoenix, it was not all plain sailing but there were plenty of positives to take including the debuts of Harvey Robson, Mikey Power and Deakan Fielder.

“It was always going to be tough, but I think towards the end we got a bit better and as long as we take that into tomorrow, we will be fine.

“I played with two of them last year; I think they all did great. Mikey did well and the D did well too. It is great for them to come up because it is tough, with the league getting so much tougher, it is good they got a game last Saturday.” He added.

Ahead of this coming weekend Ben said “We always have our targets; games we want to win in boxes of six. It would be good to win against Telford and we hope to make it a four-point weekend.”

Tickets for the Telford game are still available online from www.swindonwildcats.cloudvenue.co.uk or by visiting Wildcat Sports in the Link Centre.
