GB To Face Poland

GB face two games against Poland

Great Britain Men will play two international games against Poland ahead of the World Championship (Division 1B) next year.

The two great rivals will go head-to-head at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham on Thursday 9th April 2015 (7:30pm) and in Coventry's Skydome a day later, Friday 10th April 2015 (7:30pm).

Poland were promoted to Division 1A last season, with their only defeat in five matches in Vilnius coming at the hands of GB.

Colin Shields netted a hat-trick in Vilnius as GB won 4-2 to end the tournament on a positive note and narrowly miss out on a bronze medal.

Great Britain and Poland have produced some great contests over the years, so these two matches are bound to be very exciting and competitive, as the two nations prepare for their respective tournaments.

General manager, Andy Buxton, said: "Anyone who has seen GB play against Poland in World Championship tournaments over the last few years will know just how good these two games will be.

"It's a big coup for British hockey that we've been able to attract Poland over here and another great opportunity for British hockey fans to see their team in action on home ice.

"These will be very important games for both nations as part of our preparations for the World Championship and I would encourage anyone who hasn't seen international hockey live before to come along to these games.

"I'm sure they won't be disappointed."

Ice Hockey UK general secretary, Andy French, added: "We are very pleased that our friends from Poland are coming across to face us for the two matches.

"We have a great relationship with Poland and have had some terrific battles with them over the years.

"They are a very good team and that was shown with their promotion to Division 1A last season.

"These will be two high-standard warm-up games to get the squad ready for the World Championship in Eindhoven."

Tickets for the two games will go on sale shortly. The cost has been held at last season's prices and there will once again be a special discounted early-bird period.
