MATCH REPORT: SAT 3RD NOV 18

A netminding howler by Dynamos stopper Adam Long in the opening minute of the game set the tone as Wildcats netted three times in both opening periods before Aaron Nell and Tom Rutkis struck in the third period to secure the win.

The win puts Aaron Nell’s men onto 16 league points out of a possible 18 – their only defeat coming against Streatham on home ice exactly a fortnight ago.

Swindon’s night got off to the perfect start when Tom Rutkis’ modest effort from just inside the blue line found a way through Long’s pads – gifting Swindon an early lead.

Edgars Bebris doubled the home side’s lead 10 minutes later when a scramble in front of net eventually led to a puck falling loose in front of Latvian, who converted from close range.

Rutkis then stretched Cats’ lead to three in freak circumstances. The forward’s shot crashed off the plexi-glass behind Long’s net before hitting the stopper’s back and falling into the net in fortuitous fashion to end the period.

Last season’s signing Edgar Bebris confirmed his hat-trick mid-way through the second period with a pair of quickfire markers before Maxime Birbraer struck from a tight angle with seconds remaining in the middle period to make it six.

Aaron Nell cashed in on Invicta’s poor defensive display eight minutes into the third period when slamming home a one-timer above Long’s reach.

A powerplay in favour of the Wildcats just seconds later made it eight for Nell’s men as Rutkis bagged his hat-trick.

Wildcats travel to face Milton Keynes Thunder in the league tomorrow before hosting Peterborough Phantoms on Friday night in the Autumn Cup semi-final second leg.
