PREVIEW: Telford Tigers vs Wildcats

Telford Tiger vs Swindon Wildcats

The Swindon Wildcats three-game road trip finally comes to an end on Wednesday evening as the guys take to the ice in Telford for the first time this season.  Face off is at 7:30pm.

FORM

The Wildcats dropped two points in Sheffield on Sunday evening in a game which both Ryan Aldridge [Head Coach] and newly announced captain Jan Kostal both conceded post game, failed to mirror the commitment shown on the ice in Guildford the previous week.

“I said to the boys we’ve got to take the positives out of the third period but I think we just took too long to get going,” Aldridge told Link Sports Editor Sam Morshead following the defeat.

“Outshooting them the way we outshot them, we had time to get the goals back.  It was frustrating because we didn’t play for the full 60-minutes, we took the first 15 off.”

The Tigers meanwhile, are yet to sink their teeth in to any serious run of League battle.  Victories over the Steeldogs [4-3] and Bees [6-1] in the opening weekend have been followed with cup games victories against NIHL opposition in the form of the Solway Sharks [13-1], Billingham Stars [5-2] and Blackburn Hawks [7-1] with only a 2-1 defeat after penalties against the Basingstoke Bison providing the side with any real substantial test of their mettle in recent weeks.

Speaking to the local media following the opening round of games, Tigers head coach Tom Watkins said that he didn’t believe that any club would turn up at the Telford Ice Rink and lay down and credited that fact to the strength of the English Premier Ice Hockey League and he will certainly be expecting more from his visitors tomorrow evening [Wednesday, October 1st] when the Wildcats come to town and Aldridge will also be looking for his troops to bounce back.

“It is going to be another tough game,” he told swindonwildcats.com.

“After Sunday’s defeat, I’m looking for a big response from the guys and I know they’re wanting to do well and show their ability and put in a shift.”
