Tigers Tamed By 'Cats

In a busy week for the Swindon Wildcats, the team saw themselves take to a midweek away fixture as they travelled to the Telford Tigers. Despite the two sides currently level on points in the league, it would be the ‘Cats who would show some good form on the road.

The game opened very competitively between the teams and with shots shared apiece, it was clear both were finding time the read the others’ play.

In contrast to the first period it was not long before a goal was netted in the second and one that would break the 0-0 deadlock. An interception from ‘Cats import Henri Sandvik would present a 3 on 1 situation and despite being held out with his shot, Sandvik would see team mate Jan Kostal collect on the rebound and open the scoring.

From here Telford began to apply the pressure and showed a real spell of form for both the team and the home crowd. However Swindon netminder Stevie Lyle’s efforts along with his defenceman, soon set up Swindon to attack again. It would be Tomasz Malasinski who would catch the home side on the break and with an accurate shot from the right wing, would double his sides’ lead past netminder Tom Murdy for a 2-0 score.

Minutes later and Malasinski then went about another goal, this time receiving a pass courtesy of line mate Aaron Nell before picking a spot once more.

A positive period for the Swindon Wildcats set up an interesting third and one that awaited a home side with nothing to lose but apply pressure. Apply they did however Swindon showed composure to deal with the shots before looking to approach on the counter attack. After deterring Telford throughout the period, the Wildcats then found an opportunistic powerplay for Malasinksi to collect his hat trick on a 5 on 3 play. A fourth and final goal would wrap up a comfortable 4-0 shutout victory for the travelling side and give Swindon their third away win of the season.

A top performing ‘Cats side now look ahead to Saturday and a match up against the Wightlink Raiders in Swindon’s third home cup fixture of the campaign.
