‘Cats Fall To Bison In Late Drama

Last Saturday evening the Swindon Wildcats saw their recent run of victories come to an unfortunate end, as a hosting Basingstoke Bison would earn an eventual 2-1 win against the visitors.

The night’s action would open in true style for the home side who within 2 minutes, would have their first goal. After forward Joe Rand would circle the net, a quick pass would set up team mate Aaron Connelly for a deadlock breaking tap in.

Despite the set back, the ‘Cats would look to test opposing netminder Dean Skinns in the later stages of period, but would be held out after 20 minutes of play.

However 3 minutes into the second period and Swindon’s Tomas Malasinski would then level the scores for a 1-1 game. The Pole would be found with precision by fellow import Jonas Hoog, before firing with a one timed effort to find the back of the net.

This boost would bring with it its fair share of chances for the travelling side but with the hosts looking for a reply, the two teams quickly turned the fixture into an end to end affair.

A final third period would see Basingstoke apply some early pressure and after seven minutes from the restart, the hosts were then rewarded with a goal. Some quick foot work would see previous scorer Connelly wrong foot a Swindon defenseman, before firing low past netminder Stevie Lyle for the defining second goal.

Swindon would look to even the scores and although coming close through Malasinski in the final minutes, it was not to be as the Bison held the visitors out until the game’s ultimate end.

A home victory this night means Basingstoke can retain their second place status in the league, whilst the Wildcats will look to Sunday when they have the chance to climb the EPL table with a win over the MK Lightning.

Final Score: Basingstoke Bison 2 - 1 Swindon Wildcats
