Phantoms Fought Off With Five

Last Sunday night the Swindon Wildcats rounded off their road trip weekend in good form, with a well earned 5-2 victory over the Peterborough Phantoms. Despite suffering a defeat the previous evening, Swindon would look to make amends and take 2 points back to Swindon come the end of the night’s affairs.

Although eventually coming away winners, Swindon would in fact begin the night trailing as the home sides’ Milan Barynk would net after just 23 seconds. However this was soon cancelled out through Adam Harding’s instant reply, before import Jonas Hoog then netted a minute later with an accurate wristshot for the Wildcat lead. An action packed opening two minutes would see a frantic start and before the team’s would hit the the minute mark, the next goal would then be netted courtesy of the hosts. A solid shot from Will Weldon would see the forward tie the game but only for mere minutes as Swindon would reply once again. This time it would come at the hands of team captain Jan Kostal, who’s long effort shot would beat Janis Auzins between the pipes for a 3-2 score to end the period.

A five goal first period would pave the way for the second and within moments, the ‘Cats had their next chance to score again. Forward Aaron Nell would be seen to be pulled down on net and despite being awarded a penalty shot, would dramatically be kept out by Auzins who would keep the home side within one.

A more physical second period would see both sides continue to test the netminders however in comparison to the first, the teams would mean without another goal after forty minutes of play.

The final third would open in good stead for Peterborough who over the starting minutes, would pressure the Swindon net. Although testing Lyle on several occasions, the away side would hold strong and wait before Kenton Smith’s counter attack shot would find the net once again for a Wildcat fourth.

With over two minutes remaining and down by a couple, the Phantoms looked to ice the extra man and pull their netminder. However after gaining possession of the puck, it would take a swipe from ‘Cats Nell to score on the empty net and give his side a defining 5-2 final victory.

A 2 point win here see’s the Wildcats hold their fourth place in the league a line up a home fixture against local rivals the Bracknell Bess this coming Saturday.
