Dramatic win for GB seals bronze.

Great Britain Under-18s have won a thrilling bronze medal in the World Championship in Tallinn after coming from behind and going on to beat Netherlands in a penalty shootout.

Trailing 3-2 in the closing stages, Toms Rutkis scored with nine seconds remaining after coach Martin Grubb had lifted netminder Denis Bell in favour of the extra skater.

The first 10 penalties were missed and GB won it on the eighth round of shots, with Sam Duggan scoring the winning penalty.

GB had to come from behind three times in the game. After Leef Boer gave Netherlands the lead on the powerplay (8:19), Lee Bonner hit back for GB within two minutes (9:42).

Netherlands scored at 24:48 through Bas Tammerijn and Duggan levelled for GB 49 seconds later (25:37).

Guus van Nes made it 3-2 to Netherlands at 55:11, before Rutkis scored a dramatic late goal and GB went on to win the shootout.

Grubb said: "I am so proud of the players today and the character they showed to win the bronze medal.

"I thought we played a little nervous at times and got caught taking too many penalties but once we changed our penalty kill, we managed the game well.

"When you are down with nine seconds to go, you need your players to execute one chance and they did that.

"I cannot give them enough credit for the character and spirit they had as a team.

"We wanted the last two games to define our tournament and I feel we have made progression after finishing fifth last year.

"My staff were amazing throughout the week and the support from both here and the UK was fantastic - and we thank everyone for their support."
