McEwen Arrives At Swindon

Forward confirmed for new season

Swindon Wildcats coach Stevie Lyle has beaten off competition from four other EPIHL clubs and today announced that centre Corey McEwen has signed a contract with the club for the 2015-16 season.

The 22-year old duel national (Canadian and GB) began his career with the Peterborough Phantoms U16s during the 2005-06 season while his father [Doug McEwen] was playing with the Phantoms senior side, befor progressing to the U18 age group the following season.

His family returned to Canada in 2007-08 where he iced in the Nickel District Minor Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves and then Sharks, as well as Copper Cliff before entering junior hockey with the Manitoulin Islanders and St. Benedict Secondary School.

The 2011-12 season saw him play for the Blind River Beavers in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he was named as an alternative captain for two years running, his second year seeing him post 20 goals and 28 assists (in 46 appearances) and one point in four playoff games.

McEwen then moved in to University Hockey where he joined the Laurentian Voyageurs (during the 2013-14 campaign) and he spent last season as an assistant coach with the Sudbury Bulldogs Bantam AA.

"I'm very happy to be adding Corey to our team going into next season," said Lyle.

"I know his father very well from our time with the [Cardiff] Devils and I've seen Corey develop over the years.

"He had a good season coaching with Sudbury under his dad last year, and he has the potential to be a top player in our league.

"With his skills and skating, he can contribute offensively and he'll play solid and will be a fun player to watch develop as a Wildcat, he's a great signing for us."

McEwen counts as a British player and becomes the eleventh player to make the Wildcats 2015-16 roster with further signatures expected to be confirmed in the near future.
