Inker Earns GB Call

Topcats defender included in GB squad

The Swindon Wildcats are delighted to announce that defender Becky Inker, who ices in our female affiliate side Swindon Topcats, has been selected for the GB Woman’s squad and will face the Netherlands in challenge games which take place next month.

The GB Women take on their Dutch counterparts over two games which have been arranged for Thursday February 11 [face off 7:30pm] and Friday February 12 [face off 12:40pm] at iceSheffield.

Both games will help head-coach Cheryl Smith finalises her roster ahead of April’s World Championships Division 2A tournament which is being held in Slovenia.

“I’m really excited to be given the chance to play for GB,” Inker told swindonwildcats.com after the 29-player squad was announced on Thursday [January 21] afternoon.

“There are a lot of really skilful players in the squad, so I will have my work cut out to make the final roster, but I’m really proud of how far I have come and I will be giving it all in these challenge games.”

The selection marks the first time that the player has been called up to the GB squad and although she has played for England for the last four seasons, and captained the side for the previous two, Inker concluded:  “I’ve been taking the stepping-stones towards the GB programme over the last few years and I’m thrilled to be involved.

“Whatever the outcome, I’m really looking forwards to the experience and I will be trying my hardest to show what I can do.”

Inker has iced for the Topcats for the last five seasons, and in the four games the Topcats have played so far this season, she has scored three goals and recorded one assist for four points.
