It was a thrilling game at a packed out Link Centre where player coach Aaron Nell score the overtime winning goal to give the Swindon Wildcats two points.
Match Report:
The Hull Seahawks started the first few minutes of the game on the front foot until a dumped puck found it’s way onto Aaron Nell’s stick who fired it too corner past Zimozdra at 02:45.
It was then the battle of the goalies who both made some very impressive saves to keep the game at 1-0 heading into the first period break.
End of the first period: Wildcats 1-0 Seahawks
The Cats dominated the first 10 minutes of the second period and were rewarded with another goal. This time Chris Jones firing it through Zimozdra from the point on the powerplay at 26:49.
The Seahawks did battle back into the game and scored a very nice goal off the rush, Lee Bonner finding Bobby Chamberlain at the back door who first timed the puck past Marr at 30:37.
End of the second period: Wildcats 2-1 Seahawks
The Wildcats did a good job at trying to shut the game down with Marr making some big saves to stop Svec and Sobchak.
However the Seahawks got a powerplay opportunity and Emil Svec tied the game up with a wrist shot finding it’s way past Marr timed at 52:51.
The Wildcats however battled back into the game and retook the lead. Josh Shaw racing away one on one and calmly slotting the puck round Zimozdra and into the empty cage in what everyone thought would be the winner. Timed at 57:09.
The Seahawks then got another powerplay opportunity and pulled Zimozdra to create a 6 on 4 and they made a nice play with Chamberlain finishing it off and hitting the back of the net with 59 seconds left.
End of regulation: Wildcats 3-3 Seahawks
The Wildcats dominated the overtime period with chance after chance. Malasinski made a brilliant play to retrieve the puck and find Nell in the slot who buried it top corner to hand the Wildcats the extra point.
Final score: Wildcats 4-3 Seahawks
