Swindon Wildcats are delighted to announce that our opening competitive fixtures for the 2018-19 season will be a home and away match up with the Hull Pirates in the Autumn Cup.
We will also be taking on the Bracknell Bees in pre-season on Saturday 1st September before heading down to Bracknell in the return fixture on the following night. Doug Sheppard has put together an exciting roster with the likes of Tomas Karpov and Vanya Antonov.
After testing ourselves against the likes of Bracknell and Streatham in pre-season we dive straight into Autumn Cup action with a trip to Yorkshire to take on Jason Hewitt and his Pirates.
With the likes of Matty Davies, James Archer and new import goalie Tomas Fucik it will be a stern test for the class of 18/19 to contend with. Following that weekend we complete the Autumn Cup group with double header games with Sheffield, the Sheffield home game will be a 4PM face-off and Telford before on Saturday 6th October the NIHLS1 season kicks off with games with the Invicta Dynamos.
The Christmas Home games this year see us take on Bracknell on the 22nd and then Peterborough on 29th December.
During our last 4 games of the season we will play 3 of them at the Better Link Centre against Basingstoke, Streatham and Bracknell respectively before our final league game sees us travel to Milton Keynes to take on the Thunder before playoff action begins the week after.
The league format will be a 42 game league schedule with 6 games against each team and the first home and away game of each will double up as a South Cup game as well. Sadly the Cardiff Fire have had to pull out at short notice, so the league has now revered to 3 home and 3 away games per team.
Speaking after the fixtures were announced Head Coach Aaron Nell was pleased to have been able to pencil in the games for his team:
The fixtures coming out is always an exciting time for fans and players alike. We now know the makeup of our season and can actively start putting plans in place to ensure we are best prepared for every game we play.
Pre-season will be tough against Bracknell and Streatham however, they will be the best preparation for the Autumn Cup. We want to defend our trophy and the likes of Hull, Sheffield and Telford have all improved on last year and we are going to have to hit the ground running straight away.
The season launch for the Wildcats will be on Sunday 26th August where you can meet the squad and see the boys on the ice for the first time this season.
