Swindon Wildcats are thrilled to announce the sixth member of the 2018-2019 roster with the news that Neil Liddiard will be returning for another season, for what will be his fourth season since re-joining from Guildford in 2015.

The 40-year-old defenceman, was a key figure in the side which won the NIHL National Cup alongside the NIHL Autumn Trophy last season. Liddiard led the team in blocked shots after blocking over 150 throughout the course of the campaign.

Speaking about securing the services of Liddiard for another campaign Wildcats Head Coach Aaron Nell said:

“I’m thrilled to have Lidds back for another season. He’s a coach’s dream in the way he goes about his work both on and off the ice and is a real leader in the locker-room.

He comes to play every night and is crucial for us in big game situations. We all learn a lot from Neil and you can see every time he throws himself in front of a puck that he will do anything for the team and that is exactly the sort of guy we want in the locker-room.”

Liddiard himself, who has iced in over 1000 career games, added:

“It was a really easy decision to come back, we had a great year last year and we were a successful team. Swindon is a great place to play and the whole organisation is well ran by the Nell family.

To be on a winning Swindon team was amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to be on some winning teams in my career but this one felt extra special. Coming back to my hometown team and winning two trophies was brilliant. The Wildcats deserve to be winning things and it’s great we delivered.

I was personally happy with how I played last year, I take pride in defence and I think I did that well last year. I’m eager to get going again and creating some more memories like we did against Basingstoke & Sheffield.

Neil now joins Aaron Nell, Stevie Whitfield, Sam Bullas, Renny Marr and Floyd Taylor on the roster for next season.
