Two powerplay goals coupled with Jacob Ranson’s clinical strike towards the end of the second period ended Wildcats’ unbeaten home run this season, which stretched to seven games.

Wildcats quickly went ahead when Stevie Whitfield’s shot from distance was fumbled by netminder Damien King before hitting the back of Streatham’s net, gifting the hosts the lead.

Nell’s troops had chances to double their lead through Edgars Bebris, who was granted time and space by the visiting team on seven minutes before his twisting shot was comfortably saved.

Streatham equalised on 14 minutes when Scott Bailey scored on the powerplay after Chris Jones was boxed for hooking.

Bailey made full use of the man advantage to score an individual goal, to the frustration of Wildcats netminder Renny Marr.

Increased physicality towards the end of the first period resulted in little reward though Wildcats, who ended the first period level.

The visitors started the second period the livelier. Alex Roberts forced a good early period save before a double Wildcats penalty – moments after Streatham’s Warman had also been penalised – put the visitors in a four-on-three advantage.

Though Streatham couldn’t add to their powerplay goal tally, Jacob Ranson fired the visitors into the lead when concluding a well-worked team goal with a back door tap in.

The goal unsettled Wildcats, who were being tested for the first the league at home this season following comfortable home wins previously against Invicta and London Raiders. Swindon were unfortunate not to equalise at the start of the third period as chances for Nell and Bebris were both well saved.

Wildcats’ penalty kill again cost the hosts as Aaron Nell’s penalty for high sticks granted Streatham the opportunity to score a third goal.

Alex Roberts required no second invitation as the hosts stretched their lead to two.

An opportunity to reduce the deficit was presented to Wildcats with eight minutes of play remaining as Streatham’s James Warman was boxed for kneeing.

However a frustrated Chris Jones needlessly cancelled Wildcats’ powerplay out when picking up a sloppy cross-checking penalty just seconds in the powerplay.

While that penalty resulted in no fourth goal for Streatham, Aaron Nell’s men failed to find the back of Damien King’s net as Streatham ended the evening with Alex Roberts bagging an empty net goal.
