Swindon Wildcats are thrilled to announce our third re-signing ahead of the 2018/19 NIHLS1 season, by confirming netminder Renny Marr, sponsored by Jack Hammond, will be back for a second season in Wildcats colours.

After joining the club from the Coventry Blaze last summer, Renny went on to become the Wildcats number one goalie for the 17/18 season, forming a good relationship with net-minding coach Dan Brabon and Matt Smital.

Leading his team through the Autumn Cup campaign all the way to lifting the silverware was the highlight of the season, and this along with many notable performances along the way, was enough for Aaron Nell to award him a contract for next season.

Speaking about the news Aaron said: “Renny joined us last summer and has exceeded all of our expectations, and is now one of the leading netminders outside the EIHL in the UK. He’s developed so much working with Dan this year it really was a no-brainer to ask him to come back for next year.

The fans have really taken to him thanks to some big performances like the games with Basingstoke and Peterborough in the Autumn Cup. Having a netminder you can rely on is huge and with Renny we have that, and he’s only going to get better.

After signing his contract, Renny added:

“It was very easy to sign up for next season. The last year has been great and I have enjoyed every minute of it in Swindon. We have been successful in the Autumn Trophy and we still have another final to come. Next season we’re looking to continue being successful and I really wanted to be a part of that.

I feel I’ve progressed a lot and playing the amount of games I have has massively helped my confidence. Getting the deal done now was perfect for me because it allows me to enjoy my summer, seeing some family and friends and not have to worry about my plans for next season. It will also help me focus on what I need to do to prepare for next season!”

Whilst the season is nearly done, the Wildcats still have the small matter of the NIHL Cup Final with the Sheffield Steeldogs, so keep Sunday 15th April free as that is when we will host the Dogs in the second leg in Swindon.
